Aguila Arizona
Aguila, Spanish for “Eagle’s Beak”, was named after a small railroad settlement by F.H. Kline in June of 1909. This was the first county of the original four in Mariposa County – the county being named for an important Yuman tribe going back to as early as 1775.
No treaty was ever established with the Mariposa Indians; however a reservation was established in February of 1858 on the Gila River.
Aguila is home to the Eagle Eye Mountain and boasts the world’s largest cantaloupes.
Eagle Eye Road south of Aguila offers a wilderness for jeep rides, hiking trails and scenic views. Robson’s mining world, just north of Aguila, offers an authentic old west mining town.
