Amado, Arizona
The town of Amado is named after three brothers that came to the New World from Spain in 1790. The town of Amadoville was founded in 1910 by Manual H. Amado but when Demitro Amado was postmaster he requested the name be changed to present day Amado. The Amado family continues to live as ranchers and freight operators in the area.
Situated at an elevation of 2,885 feet, Amado has a winter low temperature of 40 degrees with a high summer temperature of 100 degrees.
Some of the local landmarks include the Cow Palace which was a hangout for western movie stars, while on location in Arizona. Arivaca Lake, with quite primitive facilities is a well stocked lake where anglers will find large-mouthed bass, bluegill and catfish. Bird watchers will find over 300 species of birds while at this relaxed site. Watchers have reported sightings of gray hawks, buff-collared nightjar and Strickland woodpeckers.
