Bagdad Arizona
Bagdad, not to be confused with Baghdad, Iraq, has a unique history. It started as an independent copper mine that was developed without support of any major company. The name itself, as the story goes, is from a father and son mining team. The son would be filling bags with ore and when he needed another bag to fill, would yell “bag dad”.
Bagdad is also well known for its research and development and in the 1990’s incorporated churn drilling and later introduced high-tech processing of copper into finished products.
The clean neat appearance and the Spanish architecture is one of the first things noticed as entering the town. The town itself grew due to the need for housing for the mining employees.
The nearby Yavapai County’s mountains offer a lot of attractions. Burro Creek is a popular place for backpacking, hiking and camping. Ruins of modern-day ghost towns riddle the area and cattle now roam where prospectors once search for wealth.
