Bisbee Arizona
In 1877 signs of lead, copper and possibly silver were found in the area, later to be called Bisbee, when a detail of army scouts where sent to search for renegade Apaches. Many bodies of ore were located and Bisbee took on the name of “Queen of the Cooper Camps”.
The city became incorporated in 1903 and by 1910 was considered to be the largest city in the territory with over 25,000 people. In the ‘50’s the population dropped to less than 6,000 when the boom times ended.
The sudden exodus, the resulting crash in housing prices, the picturesque scenery attracted many artists and today is well known for it’s artist’s colonies. Many homes have since been renovated and property values in Bisbee now exceed many other southern Arizona communities.
Bisbee is also known for the turquoise – “Bisbee Blue”.
