Carefree Arizona
Incorporated in 1984, Carefree is located in the desert foothills, just 15 miles northeast of Phoenix. With a winter population of approximately 3,000 residents, Carefree enjoys an average of eight degree cooler temperatures than nearby Phoenix.
“Home of cowboys and caviar” is the town’s motto sums up the Old West meeting the new. With spectacular landscapes and saguaro studded backgrounds, the town is surrounded by the Tonto National Forest, the Mazatzal Mountains and the Sonoran Desert.
Carefree lives up to its name with meandering streets with such names as Easy Street, Tranquil Trail and Ho and Hum Roads matching the town’s carefree attitude.
As an idea developed by Tom Darlington and K.T. Palmer, beautiful golf courses are back dropped by huge piles of granite boulders and sharp mountain tops.
The El Pedregal Festival Marketplace offers visitors items specializing in African Mediterranean and Southwestern architecture and objects. Fine restaurants and boutiques are in this area as well offering guests a unique place to live and shop. Nearby Bartlett Lake offers fishing and boating while and the Verde River has become a popular destination for those wishing to cool off during the summer.
