Casa Grande Arizona
Casa Grande offers a blend of old and new with it’s restored “Main Street City”, specialty shops in this historic district. The city’s amenities include senior centers, museums, schools, a library, festivals, rodeos and over 18 parks.
Although it remains a mystery, the Hohokam Indians disappeared from the area around 1450 A.D. Left behind is evidence of the irrigation canals used in farming by these historic Indians.
The city’s namesake comes from the “big house” which reveals the ruins of the once great Hohokam Indians. The Casa Grande Ruins National Monument covers and protects this “big house” that was built so long ago. Tourists can find picnic areas, hiking trails and campgrounds at the Picacho Peak State park located east of Casa Grande. The park is the location of the famous Battle of Picacho Pass.
1879 saw miners, cattle ranchers and farmers returning to this area and the arrival of the railroad was the cause of this city’s largest growth.
A quickly developing city, Casa Grande, just south of Phoenix is part of Arizona’s Golden Corridor. Although it is quickly becoming a modern city, it has managed to maintain its rural and old fashioned heritage.
