Colorado City Arizona
This Mormon community was originally a settlement on Short Creek. Originally called Millennial City, the town changed its name due to the notoriety it received as a polygamous colony. A raid by state forces, later let go as the case fizzled in court prompted the renaming to Colorado City in 1963 and was incorporated in 1985.
Moving from agriculture and ranching to manufacturing and business has caused urban expansion and growth.
Fourteen miles from town is the Pipe Springs National Monument, a terrific attraction. Visitors coming to the monument can relive its past by walking through this pioneer community built in the late 1880’s.
A historical schoolhouse near the Mount Trumbell Wilderness and a scenic drive through grasslands, ponderosa pine and the historic Navajo Bridge built in 1928 are two beautiful activities tourists don’t want to miss.
