Douglas Arizona
Where Douglas now sits was known in 1878 as “Black Water”, due to the use of a dirty water hole. With a population of almost 14,000, Douglas is at an elevation of 3,990 feet and enjoys a pleasant year-round climate.
Originally a mining town, then a cattle ranching area, Douglas today has three manufacturing plants producing clothing to auto parts.
The Gadsden Hotel holds tales of Douglas’s past and is an elegant place to visit. The Chiricahua Wilderness offers camping spots and hiking trails and at the Chiricahua National Forest Park you can learn about the history of the nearby mountain ranges.
Plants and water life, along with the home of Arizona’s great cattle barons, are some of the places to see while visiting the San Bernardino National Wildlife Refuge.
