Ehrenberg Arizona

Ehrenberg is a desert community located in La Paz County, Arizona along the Colorado River. It was founded at the ferry landing site of William and Isaac Bradshaw in 1869. It was first named as Mineral City. Ehrenberg became a major port when the Colorado River was the main source of transportation to the Arizona territory interior in the 1870s. At the time of the great La Paz rush, Californians crazy for gold crossed the Colorado River. The town was renamed Ehrenberg taken from Herman Ehrenberg who was a surveyor and mining engineer that was later murdered in California. About 500 people lived in Ehrenberg in the mid-1870s mostly in brush and adobe houses because of the booming economy of Ehrenberg at that time. The grandson of former Sen. Barry Goldwater, Mike Goldwater, built a mercantile store and warehouse in the area.

Ehrenberg has a great view of the desert/mountain on one side and the Colorado River on the other. The remains of the early-day La Paz which was one time considered for the capital of Arizona is about two miles north of the town.

The unincorporated town has a population of 1,357 as of 2000 with an elevation of 200 feet.
