Fairbank Arizona

Fairbank is located in Cochise County, southeastern Arizona. Now considered a ghost town, it was once home to a post office, a hotel, a school, several railroad lines and mills. It was founded in the 1880s and was named after Nathaniel K. Fairbank, a Chicago investor. Mr. Fairbank was the one who invested funds to open the silver mines in nearby Tombstone.

Every road in the area except for the main street had been under thick scrub growth by the 1970s. And when the buildings were declared unsafe, people within the area were evicted. Efforts were made to preserve what remains of the old Fairbank but it has only been partially successful. Eight buildings remain at the site but all of which were in extreme poor condition. These include a small schoolhouse, an adobe building which was the site of the hotel, two other buildings attached to the hotel, two wooden houses, a corral, and the ruins of an old windmill. Finally, the hotel which was the last remaining largest structure collapsed in 2004.
