Gilbert Arizona
Gilbert is situated on the southwest corner of Maricopa County. The town with an elevation of 1,240 feet is around 30 minutes drive from downtown Phoenix. It was founded in 1891 and was incorporated as a town in 1920. It was named after William M. Gilbert who was an early Valley homesteader.
Gilbert was considered the fastest growing incorporated town in the United States and the second largest in North America after Markham, Ontario, Canada. It was based from the 1990 to 2004 Census estimates. It has a total population of 164,685 based on the U.S. Census 2004. A few reasons that the town attracted new residents and businesses are a superior school system, quality housing in a variety of price ranges, recreational amenities and employment opportunities. The quality of life the residents enjoy contributed largely to the town’s rapid growth.
Today, a broad range of community facilities are offered by the town of Gilbert. These include a new skate park, fourteen parks, recreation center, several baseball and softball fields, two swimming pool complexes, five golf courses and several tennis and racquetball courts. It also offers many of Arizona’s scenic attractions.
