Goodyear Arizona
Goodyear is a suburban community nestled near the base of Estrella Mountains southwest of Metro Phoenix, located in Maricopa County, Arizona. The city was founded with the purpose of farming cotton by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in 1916. A naval air base station was established later in Goodyear and the manufacture of flight decks for Navy seaplanes was begun by a subsidiary called Goodyear Aircraft. Goodyear was later incorporated in 1946.
Today, Lockheed Martin, formerly Goodyear Aircraft, is one of the city’s largest employers. The strong economic base and rapid growth was contributed by aerospace and food processing industries together with the California markets proximity to the city. The aerospace industry is the main source of Goodyear’s economy. Aside from Lockheed Martin Defense, Luftansa’s Airline Training Center and Aviation Management Systems are also located in the Phoenix-Goodyear airport campus. Another economic source for the city is the food industry with companies such as Del Monte Fresh Produce, Poore Brothers, Snyder’s of Hanover and Duncan Family Farms.
Goodyear with an elevation of 969 feet has a total population of 35,810 as of 2004 census.
