Green Valley Arizona
Green Valley is situated in between Tucson and Nogales in the fertile Santa Cruz River Valley in Pima County, Arizona. The area is surrounded by copper mines and is near the hiking and birding areas of the Santa Rita Mountains. Much of Green Valley occupies part of the 46,696 acres of the San Ignacio de las Canoa grant. During the 16th century, this land was given to New Spain by the Spanish Crown.
The town is predominantly a retirement community. Green Valley’s main source of income comes in the form of Social Security payments, transfer payments, stock dividend, savings withdrawals and private retirement benefits. A lot of the retirees are mostly former executives who were retained as consultants by their former employers or by other companies. Many full-time employed persons are either employed in one of the local service facilities or travel outside of Green Valley like Tucson.
Green Valley is presently an unincorporated town with an elevation of 2,900 feet and has a population of 17,283 as of 2000 U.S. Census. It has three main shopping centers with around 350 shops that serve its residents and is also the home to a one of a kind museum, the Titan II Missile Museum.
