Greer Arizona

Greer is located in the heart of the White Mountains in Apache County, eastern Arizona. Greer area was formerly known as Lee Valley at the time rail and road opened up the territory and people came into the area. It has an elevation of 8,500 feet. The Willard Lee family arrived in the area in 1879 and aptly named it Lee Valley. When the first post office was established in the year 1898, Lee Valley was changed to Greer, in honor of a leading American citizen named Americus Vespucius Greer.

The economy of Greer is geared heavily to tourism and recreational activities including area summer homeowners. As people discovered the beauty of Arizona’s high county and the pleasure of having four seasons from which one can choose an array of different outdoor recreational activities, Greer is fast becoming a year round destination point. Both summer and winter season draw an increasing number of enthusiasts in the area. Above 90 percent of employment are in the trade and services sector and substantial opportunities for most residents are provided by tourist related activities. An estimated number of around 200,000 tourists visit the area all year round.

Greer has an estimated population of 127 based on the U.S. Census Bureau as of 1998.
