Hayden Arizona
Hayden is a community located on the southern part of Gila County, Arizona. It is situated on State Highway 177 around 30 miles southeast of Superior and 35 miles south of Globe. It is a copper mining community in transition founded in the year 1909 by Hayden, Stove and Company. This company operated mines near the community and named it after its president, Charles Hayden. The company founded the town to serve as a residential community for mine workers. Hayden was incorporated in 1956. Then in 1958, the city received an award, being chosen among 11 municipalities across the nation with the coveted designation of All-American City.
Mining was once the only economic source in the area. Since the decline of mining from the early 1900’s, Hayden diversified its economic base. Today, tourism, farming, ranching and retirement are focus for the future. The number of recreational visitors was boosted primarily by its riverside location.
