Leupp Arizona
Leupp which was founded in 1907 is located along the southwest bank of Little Colorado River in Coconino County, north central Arizona. It is in the southwest corner of the Navajo Reservation. During the 1800’s, early settlements along the Colorado River developed because of water availability. Leupp became headquarters of the Leupp Reservation in 1907. Prior to 1936, Leupp Reservation was one of the five Navajo Reservations that existed that time. The Navajo Nation in 1936 was combined under the present administrative center in Window Rock.
In 1932, the Navajo Chapter organization was instituted to act as service units for the efforts to improve farming for the Agricultural Extension. These chapters evolved into local governmental units that service the surrounding residents.
Today, based on the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Leupp has a total population of 970. As the town focuses on high-tech industries, it is fast becoming one of the reservations major growth centers. Located in the vicinity of Leupp are few unspoiled scenic attractions such as the Grand Falls on Little Colorado, the Meteor Crater and the Painted Desert.
