Litchfield Park Arizona
Litchfield Park is a planned residential community founded in 1916 located in Maricopa County, Arizona. The land west of the Agua Fria River was bought by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in 1916 to grow Egyptian long-staple cotton to use in tire cords. The place then was briefly called Agua Fria Ranch but the name was later changed in 1926 to the one who developed the project, Paul W. Litchfield, who was a junior executive at Goodyear at the time. Litchfield Park became the headquarters for Goodyear Farms. It had thousands of acres for cultivation. It was also a test site fore Goodyear tires from 1931 up to 1944. A master-plan for development was designed for Litchfield Park in the 1960’s. It included self-sufficient villages and concepts of positive aspects which are still evident today.
The town of Litchfield Park was incorporated in 1987. It has a population of 3,920 as of U.S. Census Bureau 2004. At an elevation of 1,027 feet, the town offers a variety of community facilities. It has a library, swimming pool, golf courses and parks with baseball and softball fields. The Tierra Verde business district which is the center of the town makes Litchfield Park a self-sufficient community.
