Mayer Arizona
Mayer, which was founded in 1881, is located 25 miles northwest of Prescott. It is in Yavapai County, Arizona. The town was founded by Joseph Mayer who established a store and saloon in the area. In addition, he also established Wells Fargo Stage Station situated along the stage line between Prescott and Phoenix. The town of Mayer quickly became a trading center for the surrounding mining and agricultural areas. The area also includes Spring Valley, Cordes Lakes, Poland Junction, Orme School and Crown King and Acrosanti.
Mayer presently is still unincorporated with a total population of 1,408 according to the 2000 U.S. Census. Major sources of employment for local residents include state and county government, farming, ranching and mining. Main attractions in the area include a former gold camp and ghost towns.
