Peach Springs Arizona

The town of Peach Springs in is Mohave County, Arizona about 12 miles west of Grand Canyon Caverns. It is the tribal headquarters of the Hualapai Indian reservation. The railroad established a water station in this area in the early 1880’s and called it “Peach Springs” due to the abundance of peach trees found around the spring. The small community grew in time and reportedly had 10 saloons, a roadhouse, several shops, a stage coach line and a Fred Harvey Restaurant. Several cafes, motor courts and tourist businesses were offered to the many travelers in the area when Route 66 came through.

Today, Peach Springs has an estimated population of 600 as of 2000 census. It still provides an access to one of the last undeveloped sections of the Grand Canyon, even though, very little is left of Route 66 era landmarks. This access point, Diamond Creek Road, is the only existing road that leads to the bottom of the canyon.
