Queen Creek Arizona
Located on the southeast corner of Maricopa County, Arizona, Queen Creek is about 45-minutes away from the bustling Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport which a far cry from the town of Queen Creek. It was founded and incorporated in the same year, 1989.
The name Queen Creek originated about a 100 miles away from the town up in the eastern mountains surrounding the Town Superior which was a land rich with ore supplies. Silver Queen mine was one of the many mines that opened up in those mountains and there was a creek known as the Picket Post Creek at the base of it. Picket Post Creek was changed to Queen Creek when the Silver Queen mine opened for production. This creek runs down from the mountains, past the mine then through the Queen Creek Canyon then into the area surrounding the present-day town of Queen Creek. Before the present town of Queen Creek was called as such, it had a different name. It was known as Ritterhouse because of the railroad was located near Ritterhouse and Ellsworth roads. The community changed its name and took on the name Queen Creek as the community grew and the use of the railroad diminished.
Queen Creek presently has a population of 11,360 as of 2004 U.S. Census. Thousands of visitors are attracted each year for its u-pick fruit and vegetable crops and seasonal festivals. Scenic views include Superstition Mountains to the northeast and San Tan Mountains to the south.
