San Carlos Arizona

San Carlos is an Apache Indian Reservation that covers the counties of Gila, Graham and Pinal County in southeastern Arizona. Under President Grants Executive Order, the community was initially established as a reservation in 1871. Descendants of the Athabascan family, the Apaches migrated to the Southwest in the 10 century. And many bands of Apache Indians, including Mohave and Yuma Indians, were relocated from their traditional homelands to the reservation. This extended through wide areas of Arizona and Mexico. In later years, the Yuma and Mohave Indians were given their separate reservations. The town was founded in 1934.

Today, the Indian Reservation of San Carlos has a population of 9,385 as of 2000 U.S. Census. The major employers of the reservation are government agencies. Other industries in the area include lumbering, tourism and recreation. It offers scenic adventures ranging from desert to alpine meadows.
