Sierra Vista Arizona
Located 70 miles southeast of Tucson, in Cochise County, Arizona is the town of Sierra Vista. It is the major population center for southeastern Arizona and serves as the main commercial, recreational and cultural hub in the area as well. The town can be accessed via Interstate 10 and SR 90. The name of the town was derived from a Spanish word that means “Mountain View” which aptly describes the picturesque setting of the Sierra Vista.
Sierra Vista sits at 4,623 feet above sea level and has a population of 42,805 as of 2004 U.S. Census. Today, Sierra Vista’s clean and fresh air and great sunshine contributes to the town’s great livability and comfort. The town was founded in 1927 and incorporated as a city in 1956. Fort Huachuca is located within the city limits. It is a national landmark and a modern army post that is the headquarters of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School, the Army Communications Command and the Army Electronic Proving Ground. More than 11,000 military and civilian employees are closely related to Fort Huachuca. Presently, an aggressive program for economic diversification is being pursued by the city and county officials together with the business and academic sectors.
