Snowflake Arizona
Snowflake is a town located in Navajo County, east-central Arizona. It is 30 miles south of Holbrook on State Route 77. The Mogollan Rim borders the town of Snowflake from the south and the White Mountains on the west. These form an almost continuous barrier protecting the community from sever winters and creates a semi-arid climate. It lies in an area of great contrast having a barren desert on the north and mountain ranges on the south.
The town of Snowflake was named after its founders, Apostle Erastus Snow and Mormon land agent William Flake. Thus, their name put together made up “Snowflake.” The town was established in 1878 and incorporated 70 years later, 1948.
Snowflake currently has a total population of 4,795 as of U.S. Census 2004. Its largest industry is Arizona’s only pulp and paper mill.
