Supai Arizona
Supai is a town located in Coconino County, Arizona. It is the capital of the Havasupai Indian Reservation. It is situated at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. The area can be reached by hiking 8 miles then descending about 3,000 vertical feet from the Hualapai Hilltop through the Hualapai Canyon.
Currently, Supai has an estimated population of 423 as of the 1990 census. It is the only in the entire United States wherein the mailing system is as primitive as it can get, mail is carried by mules. There are no cars or any other mode of transportation in the area except to hike, to ride mules or horses or to take a helicopter and the nearest road is about 8 miles away. Supai is also the most remote town in the lower 48 states. Visitors can take daily helicopter flights on a first-come, first-served basis. Once there, Supai offers an air-conditioned lodge, a convenience store and a café that serves fast food meals.
