It is the fastest growing city in Arizona based on the Department of Economic Security data. Over the next decade, more than 54,000 new residential dwelling units planned for construction.

Surprise presently has a total population of 63,960 as of 2004 U.S. Census. It sits at an elevation of 1,130 feet with agriculture as its principal economic activity.
