Winkelman Arizona
Winkelman, joined together by Gila River and San Pedro, is located at the southern end of Gila County. It has an elevation of 1,972 feet.
History accounts that Winkelman was founded in 1877 when a large number of farmers migrated to the region. The post-office was established in 1903 with the coming of the railroad. It was near the ranch of Peter Winkelman who was a stockman. Hence, the town was named Winkelman. It was incorporated in the year 1949.
Copper mining was a major source of economic activity in Winkelman. Much of the community served primarily as residence for employees working at the mining and processing of copper and also as a service center.
Winkleman’s population as of year 2004 is 450.
